The Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) is open 24/7 with senior physician coverage from 8 am to 11.30 pm and emergency nurse coverage from 11.30 pm to 8 am.

VVED program works with community healthcare providers (medical, nursing, allied health and residential aged care) to identify patients that traditionally would have been referred to an ED, but may be suitable for ongoing management in the community, with ED consultation.

We also work with community health care providers to identify patients that can bypass ED and be fast tracked to suitable alternative pathways for ongoing investigation and management. This may include our Short Stay unit, Hospital in the Home (HITH) and acute review clinics.

Patients need to provide consent and be advised their case will be discussed with an ED physician from the VVED service.

We support Aged Care Centres, COVID-19 Monitoring Programs, Regional Health Services and Metropolitan hospitals.
